Catching up with the talented Mr. Phil Oh a few weeks ago…
Parsing the TSA’s numbers for how many passengers choose pat-downs vs. full-body scanners.
The tree on the cover of Markus Rill’s new album stands strong and unwavering in the storm.
Simlarly steadfast and determined, Rill delivers another exquisite song collection. Roots rock with a strong acoustic bent, authentic storytelling and credible soul searching – that’s what has made the Frankfurt-born musician an established artist on the European and overseas Americana scene. “Wild, Blue & True” is another quality release.
My fellow Knight Fellow Phuong Ly and I were working on [a timeline concept] last quarter, trying to come up with ways to best serve people who step out of the news cycle for a while, or who become interested in a story that has been running for some time.
For example, if you went on vacation for a week, you could quite easily have missed the entire Egypt story. And if you wanted to catch up quickly, there was no real way to do so.
We prototyped and field tested our concept, and found that there is a real need for a service that can update people on the news quickly and simply. Casual news consumers need context, because they miss so much of stories as they develop. And heavy consumers need context when they start reading into a story that they’re new to. And they all want to get that context in just one click.
The context they’re looking for comes in two forms. The first is the explainer: if you’re just getting into a story, it’s almost certainly going to involve concepts and language that you’re unfamiliar with. The Japanese nuclear crisis for example. To even get a basic handle on that issue, you need to understand how reactors work and how the waste they generate is stored. And that’s just for starters.
